Our HIstory

Sunbelt Primary Warehouse

In 1981, Sunbelt Transformer started as a single operated company located in Temple, TX. Relying heavily on selling reconditioned distribution transformers, we were a one-product company with three employees working in a 6,500-square-foot shop. We primarily served customers in the petrochemical industry in the Texas and Gulf Coast regions.

After our first year of business, we started to grow steadily. In 1987, INC. Magazine named Sunbelt among its INC. 500, which recognized 500 of the fastest growing companies in America.

In the early to mid 1990s, a number of things changed that helped to grow Sunbelt exponentially. We expanded our partnership and opened up a second depot located in Sharon, PA. We also started providing power transformers and grew our business further by offering newly built transformers.

In the late 1990s, Sunbelt started the manufacturing side of our business at our corporate facility in Texas and added a location in Bakersfield, CA. Now three locations strong, our product offerings continued to grow.

Sunbelt expanded its national footprint in the early to late 2000s by adding locations in Simpsonville, SC, in 2001, Springfield, IL, in 2007, and Houston, TX, in 2009. As the recession took its toll and sales started to dip, we continued to build our business by focusing on our core competencies: Speed, Customization, and Ease of Doing Business.

In 2011, Sunbelt celebrated 30 years in business and opened two new locations: a depot in Miami, FL, that focuses on our international markets, and a depot in Mobile, AL. In early 2015, we added a sales location in Denver, CO, to help service our West Coast customer base. As we look to the future, we continue to build our company one customer and one location at a time by offering quality products and superior customer service.
